On April 20, 2023, Stanley Black & Decker issued a recall for their DeWALT Stanley and Craftsman Fiberglass Sledgehammers. The recall specifically involves the DeWALT, Stanley FATMAX, and Craftsman Fiberglass Sledgehammers. The sledgehammers weigh between 2 and 12 pounds each and are between 14” and 36” in length depending on the model.
The DeWALT sledgehammers are yellow and black; the Stanley sledgehammers are yellow and black; the Craftsman sledgehammers are red and black. Each of the sledgehammers have the brand name written on the handle. The model numbers on the DeWALT and Craftsman sledgehammers can be found on the hammer head. The model numbers on the Stanley sledgehammers can be found on a sticker on the product handle.

The products were sold at ACE Hardware, The Home Depot, and other hardware stores nationwide and online via Amazon.com, AceHardware.com, Homedepot.com, and other online retailers from November 2013 to November 2022 for prices ranging from $18 to $26.
According to the recall, there have been over 190 reports of the product’s head detaching; two of these reports involved injuries to the consumer’s face and head.
The company is urging all affected consumers to stop using the recalled sledgehammers and contact them for further instructions on how to receive a refund for the product.
