On September 22, 2021, Huish Outdoors issued a recall for their Oceanic Adult Dry Top Snorkels. According to the recall, number 21-199, the bottom purge valve on the affected snorkels can leak, allowing the unexpected entry of water; this poses a drowning risk to consumers. The recall has affected approximately 76,000 units of the product.
The snorkels affected by the recall are white and gray; they have a blue plastic housing around the oval-shaped, clear rubber bottom purge valve as well as a blue dry splash guard at the top of the snorkel. The snorkel is about 16.5 inches tall.
The following batch numbers are included in the recall: 2038, 2039, 2040, 2041, 2042, 2043, 2044, 2045, 2046, 2047, 2048, 2049, 2050, 2051, 2102, 2103, 2104, 2105, 2106, 2107, 2108, 2109, 2110, 2111, 2112, 2113, 2114, and 2115 (the batch numbers are located above the gray tubing).
The recalled snorkels were sold exclusively online and in-store via Costco Wholesale Warehouse from February 2021 through July 2021; they were priced at about $40 each.
So far, the company has received at least 13 reports of the snorkels leaking. There was one report of minor injuries (cuts) after a consumer tripped after the snorkel leaked.
The company is urging affected consumers to stop using the defective snorkels and follow specific instructions to destroy the product and register online for a free replacement.
If you or a member of your family suffered injuries due to the defective snorkel, you should not follow the suggestions of the company. Instead, you should explore your legal options – you could be eligible to sue and possibly even participate in a class action claim with the help of a recall lawyer.

Possible Injuries
Although one of the incident reports consisted of minor cuts, it is possible for severe harm to occur as a result of the defective snorkels – that is, consumers could suffer drowning. Without a doubt, drowning could be fatal. However, near-drowning incidents in which the victim survives can result in devastating harm.
Near-drowning incidents are typically associated with brain damage due to a lack of oxygen (including brain edema). However, near drowning incidents can also lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and pneumonia, for instance.
Regardless of the harm that you or a member of your family suffered, a defective snorkeling device injury drowning lawyer could help you explore your legal options.
What Should You Do?
If you or your family were harmed by the defective snorkels, there are a number of things that you could do to prepare to pursue your claim, including the following:
- Seek medical care
- Photograph all visible harm
- Photograph the defective product
- Contact the company to report the incident and the harm that you suffered
- Do not agree to a refund, a free replacement, or a return (do not destroy the product, just leave it as-is)
- Gather all medical records
- Seek legal assistance with a defective product attorney immediately
