On May 13, 2021, Leisure Time Products issued a recall for their Backyard Discovery Big Brutus, Little Brutus, and Mini Brutus metal A-frame swing sets. The recall affects approximately 9,000 products in the U.S. According to the recall, number 21-747, “the attachment that connects the swing hanger to the top tube can fail.” The hazard poses a significant risk of injury.
The recall includes the following manufacture codes:
- 03/2019-O
- 01/2020-T
- 02/2020-T
- 03/2020-T
- 04/2020-T
- 05/2020-O
- 07/2020-O
The affected swing sets have manufacture dates ranging from March 2019 through July 2020. The date and codes can be found on a label on one of the legs of the swing set. The swing sets all have a green top tube with while legs as well as green cross braces.
The swing sets were sold online through various retailers from May 2019 through January 2021; they were sold for prices ranging from $400 to $570.
According to the recall, there have been at least three reports of the attachment failing, causing one side of the swing failing; however, no injuries have been reported.
The Harm that Victims Could Suffer
Although no injuries have been reported, injuries are very likely. If one side of a swing suddenly falls, the occupant of the swing could fall. Depending on the elevation of the swing when the incident occurs, the fall could occur from pretty high up, which could lead to a number of injuries, including but not limited to the following:
- Head injuries and traumatic brain injuries
- Neck injuries
- Back injuries
- Spinal cord injuries
- Fractures
- Sprains and strains
- Lacerations
- Scrapes and bruises
Regardless of the harm caused by the defective product, it is important that affected parties understand that they have rights – and that they might have grounds to sue.

Is there a Class Action Lawsuit?
Can I file a class action lawsuit? How can I join or be a part of a class action lawsuit on this case? If the defective product harmed many parties, then it is likely that there is a class action claim in which you could participate. A class action lawyer can help you figure out how to join the specific class action lawsuit. In some cases, there might be mass torts rather than a class action lawsuit – mass torts are single claims against the same company. For more information about how to proceed with your claim, do not hesitate to contact our recall lawyers as soon as possible.
