A Los Angeles woman filed a lawsuit alleging that she was raped in 2016 by Metro Boomin, Grammy-nominated producer. The woman claims that she became pregnant due to the attack and had to have an abortion.
Metro Boomin, whose legal name is Leland Wayne, has worked with many of the biggest names in the music industry, specifically the R&B and hip-hop genres. The producer’s attorney made a statement calling the woman’s accusations false. He said, “This is a pure shakedown. These are false accusations. Mr. Wayne refused to pay her months ago, and he refuses to pay her now. Mr. Wayne will defend himself in court. He will file a claim for malicious prosecution once he prevails.”
The claimant is 38-year-old Vanessa LeMaistre. The lawsuit states that she became friends with the producer in Spring 2016, after she experienced the death of her infant son. In September, she was visiting him in the studio when she blacked out; she regained consciousness on a bed while Wayne was raping her. Reportedly, she was given one shot of alcohol and took a half bar of Xanax. According to the lawsuit, the next thing she remembers is “waking up on a bed in a different location…unable to move or make a sound. She was in and out of consciousness for an unknown amount of time but awake again at some point to Wayne performing oral sex on her.” LeMaistre is suing for sexual battery and gender violence; she is seeking damages to be awarded in trial.
This is not the first nor will it be the last time that someone in the music industry faces allegations of sexual abuse. Although many allegations against other artists have been disproven in the past and have resulted in counter-lawsuits for defamation, for instance, many allegations have been found to be true. Without a doubt, it is important that those who commit rape and other forms of sexual abuse are heled accountable for their actions, regardless of if they are famous.
