The Medical Board of California has accused Dr. Arjang Niam of sexual misconduct towards a patient. More specifically, Niam is being accused of offering to pay a patient for sex and making offers to be her “sugar daddy.” This reportedly occurred in 2021.
According to the medical board, the doctor told the patient that she was beautiful and asked her why she was single. He also told her that he could have sex with her regardless of her positive test of human papillomavirus. At the end of the appointment, the doctor asked the patient to coffee. Although the patient initially refused, she agreed after he insisted. The doctor drove the patient to a coffee shop in his car. Reportedly, he made “inappropriate comments” that were making the patient upset. This is when he offered to be her “sugar daddy” and pay her for sex. Then, the reportedly groped her breast and tried to kiss her; the female patient pushed him away. Also, the medical board alleges that, during procedures like pelvic exams, the doctor failed to have a chaperone present or even give the patient the chance to request a chaperone for the exam.
Dr. Arjang Niam has a history with the medical board. Most recently, Niam was put on probation after the death of a patient after a cesarean section. This probation was completed two years ago. The death of the patient created outrage and highlighted issues that black women face when seeking healthcare. Six years ago, the doctor was also on probation after being accused of negligence in care of multiple patients, one of which died also after a c-section.
Unfortunately, cases like this are very common. Doctors have the responsibility to care for their patients and treat them with utmost skill and respect. However, far too many doctors take advantage of their positions to ultimately abuse their patients. If you or a member of your family were a victim of Dr. Naim or any other Ob-Gyn, it is important that you seek legal help as soon as possible. You could have the right to file a claim and receive compensation.
