About HyreCar
HyreCar is a service that connects car owners with rideshare and delivery drivers looking for a vehicle to work in. Car owners list their vehicles on the HyreCar platform where they can be rented by others.
The process is a bit different for owners and renters.
Owners, specifically, have to upload photos of their vehicle along with a description and required documents (including registration and inspection documents). Once listed, they will receive requests from drivers. Owners will need to confirm an application and then verify all documents. The next step is arranging pick up of the vehicle. Owners will verify that they are indeed the renter and hand off the keys.
Renters, on the other hand, have to find the car that they are interested in and submit an application (the company suggests that they submit multiple application at the same time to increase the chances of getting a car). Once this application is approved, then renters have to meet the owner to pick up the vehicle.
It is also important to note that HyreCar offers car owners four different protection plan options. In addition, all rentals come with HyreCar insurance coverage for drivers.

HyreCar Insurance Options for Car Owners
HyreCar offers four different protection plans for car owners. These protection plans and their deductibles are listed below:
- Basic – $3,000 deductible
- Standard – $2,500 deductible
- Premium – $1,000 deductible
- Premium Plus – $500 deductible
All protection plans consist of $1 million third party liability coverage and up to $25,000 in physical damage coverage. If your vehicle was damaged in an accident, you will likely need to cover the appropriate deductible to fix a car that was in an accident.
HyreCar Insurance Options for Drivers
Drivers renting a vehicle through HyreCar do not have the option to choose a specific insurance coverage. This is because coverage is included with every rental. However, this coverage does not cover the entire rental period. Rather, it only covers the periods that are not covered by the insurance provided by rideshare and delivery service policies. This is typically while the rideshare or delivery service app was off (or when the driver is offline).
As soon as the renter gets the keys to the car, the insurance begins. The insurance is active while the driver is offline (this is called Period 0). During Period 0, HyreCar provides coverage that includes $300,000 in liability protection and up to $25,000 in physical damage protection (in excess of $2,500 per incident). During Period 1 (when the driver is available on the rideshare or delivery app but has not accepted a job), HyreCar provides the same coverage for physical damage protection – it is important to note that during Period 1, most rideshare and delivery services offer their drivers partial coverage. HyreCar does not offer any coverage during Period 2 or Period 3 (when the driver has accepted a job and on the way towards it and when the driver is on an active trip, respectively. During this time, the rideshare or delivery service insurance usually applies fully. Once the driver is offline again, Period 0 begins again and HyreCar coverage applies once more.
Unfortunately, there is no clear information what deductibles, if any, drivers will be subjected to in case of an accident while working.

How to Contact HyreCar after an Incident
Below, we have noted the ways that different parties can contact HyreCar after an accident:
- Drivers – HyreCar rental drivers should contact support. They can do so by pressing the ‘Contact Support’ option on the dashboard of the rental vehicle. In addition, drivers also have the option to call support directly at (213) 805-8677 (between 6am and 11:30pm PST).
- Owners – if your vehicle has clearly been in an accident and is damaged, you need to notify HyreCar as soon as possible – that is, within 24 hours of the rental period ending. You will be required to submit photos.
After contacting support, a representative should get back to owners and drivers relatively soon for assistance with the claim process.
What if you are a third party affected by an accident involving a HyreCar rental? If you are third party that was hit by a HyreCar rental, you need to contact HyreCar’s insurance provider directly. The contact information for Sedgwick Insurance’s Claim Department is (866) 250-2450.
Steps to take after an Accident
If you are a driver and were involved in an accident in a HyreCar rental vehicle, there are a number of things that you should do. The company suggests that you do the following:
- Get to a safe place and contact 911. Make sure to file a police report.
- Exchange insurance information with all other parties involved in the accident.
- Contact support if the vehicle needs to be towed immediately after the accident.
- Inform the owner of your rental vehicle about the accident.
- Photograph the vehicle and the entire scene of the accident.
- Contact HyreCar to inform them of the accident through Support.
- If possible, return the vehicle to the owner (if the vehicle is operational and you are uninjured).
In addition, drivers should ensure to take note of the police report number, the location that the vehicle was towed to (if applicable), a detailed description of the incident, photos of the incident, whether the rideshare or delivery app was on, and whether there was any passengers in the vehicle when the incident occurred.
If you are a third-party involved in an accident with HyreCar rental, the recommended steps are relatively similar.
All injured parties, whether they are drivers or third parties, should immediately seek medical attention for injuries resulting from the accident. They must also gather all relevant medical records.
After reporting the incident, a claims representative should contact you.
