There exist multiple facets for you to obtain a police report from the Newport Beach Police Department, and they depend on what kind of report you want.
Arrest Reports: To obtain a copy of an arrest report, you can request one fourteen (14) days after the date of the arrest. Request copies may only be made by the one who was arrested. (Some exceptions may apply.) Contact the Front Desk at (949) 644-3681. It’s open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, 24/7.
Crime Reports: These reports are available shortly after the report is filed. Requests for copies of crime report can be made by any involved party except the listed suspect(s). (Exceptions may apply per Section 6254 of the Government Code.) Contact the Front Desk at (949) 644-3681. It’s open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, 24/7.
Traffic Collision Reports: These are not automatically mailed to you; they must be requested. These are available after seven (7) to ten (10) days after the incident. before you make the request, it is important that you contact the Records department at (949) 644-3682. Have your case number ready to verify that the report is ready for release. If your report is ready for release, you can then follow the steps laid out below:
- If you will be requesting in person, you will need to present a valid photo ID and a payment of $10. The Front Desk is open between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm, 24/7.
- If you will be making your request via mail, please enclose a note with the following information: Your name (if your name is not listed on the report, please tell them how you are involved in the case), your case number (if you do not know the case number, you will have to supply the date/time and location of incident), and the address/phone number so that we can contact you if we need more information. Additionally, all mail requests must include a $10 check and photocopy of a valid photo ID.
