Generac issued a recall (number 23-288) on September 14, 2023. The recall is for approximately 64,000 units of their Portable Generators due to risk of fire and burns. Reportedly, the generator’s fuel tanks can fail to vent properly, resulting in a possible buildup of pressure in the tanks which can then expel fuel when opened.
The company has received at least 27 reports relating to the product overheating, pressurizing, and/or expelling fuel. At least 3 of these reported incidents resulted in severe burns.
The portable generators affected by the recall were sold between April 2011 and June 2023. The generators were available at home improvement stores and hardware stores nationwide. They were also available online on multiple websites. They were sold for prices ranging from $3,300 to $3,650.
