There is a recall for over 200,000 Kenmore and Frigidaire Smooth-top Freestanding Electric Ranges by Electrolux, which went into effect on May 16, 2024. The firm has received 212 reports of malfunctions with the stoves, which include 8 incidents of burn and smoke inhalation injuries and 14 reports of fires.
The problem with these ranges has to do with the surface heating element, which can fail to turn off, sporadically change to a different temperature, or turn on spontaneously on its own. Any of these issues can cause a house fire, resulting in severe burns and related injuries to people in the household.

Please note that this is a re-announcement of a recall that originally took place on August 2009. The affected stoves were sold from 2001 to 2009 at Sears and independent appliance retailers throughout the U.S.
Please avoid leaving anything on the range when it’s not in use to avoid a fire or burn injury and contact the manufacturer as soon as possible. If your stove is repairable, Electrolux will provide a free inspection and repair service. If the range cannot be repaired, customers will be sent a $50 gift card and $60 to pay for hauling away the appliance. The manufacturer will cover haul-away fees that are over $60 if the customer provides proper documentation showing the amount they paid.
Electric ranges and other household appliances must adhere to the highest safety standards as they have the potential to cause severe injuries, including death. It’s clear the Electrolux failed in their duty of care to countless consumers, and they cannot be allowed to get with their negligence. As the victim of a defective product injury, you have the right to sue Electrolux and obtain medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other forms of compensation. Injuries Caused by a Defective Electric Range
The potential for a fire is the biggest cause for concern, as it can result in severe injuries and property damage. Those who are burned from an Electrolux stove that fails to shut off can end up with permanent damage to the skin and nerves, along with scars and disfiguring injuries. If there is an electrical fire that causes an explosion, you could even fall down or get hit by flying debris. This is why it’s possible for someone to end up with brain injury, fractures, and deep cuts from a fire-related accident. Smoke inhalation from a fire can also cause breathing problems, damage to the lungs and windpipe, burning in the mouth and throat, and various health issues from carbon monoxide poisoning.
What Should I Do if I Injured by this Product?
Taking the right steps after an accident is the best way to receive maximum payment for your injuries. If you or your family member was burned or suffered any other injury from a fire caused by a faulty Electrolux electric range:
- Take photos of the injuries you sustained, as well as damage to your property. In the event you have serious or potentially life-threatening injuries, go straight to an emergency room.
- Regardless of the type and severity of injury, seek medical attention within 48 hours to ensure that you have proof of the harm you suffered from the accident.
- Save your medical records and keep them in a safe place with other evidence, like witness statements, proof of time lost from work, and valuation of lost / damaged possessions.
- Make sure to contact the manufacturer, but don’t agree to speak on a recorded line or receive any form of remedy to make up for the incident, like a refund or free repair services.
- Obtain legal advice from a lawyer that can sue for negligence by a product manufacturer.
