Understanding Possible Injuries
As explained above, the recalled gas ranges represent a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that is produced by burning gasoline, wood, propane, charcoal, and other fuel. In homes, appliances that are improperly ventilated or are defective can pose a significant risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide poisoning occurs when there is too much carbon monoxide in the bloodstream. Simply, breathing in carbon monoxide replaces oxygen in the blood, which can result in tissue damage and potentially death. Some common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include the following:
- Dull headaches
- Weakness
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Shortness of breath
- Confusion
- Blurred vision
- Loss of consciousness
Unfortunately, the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning can be subtle or confused for other conditions. When the symptoms are not caught on time, brain damage and death are likely to occur.
