3 Killed in Chain Reaction Accident on 60 Freeway | 9-11-2017
On Saturday morning, September 11, 2017, three people were killed in a chain reaction car wreck that shut down the 60 Freeway in Jurupa Valley in Riverside County. According to reports from the Riverside County Fire Department, the crash occurred at around 3:30 a.m on the eastbound side of the 60 Freeway near Pedley Road. California Highway Patrol reported that the incident began when a 1995 Honda Accord lost control while heading east on Highway 60 and collided with the center median.
A 2016 Ford Fusion, also headed eastbound, was unable to stop and collided with the Accord. The impact caused one of the Accord’s passengers to fly over the median into the westbound lane, where the victim was then struck by several westbound vehicles.
According to CHP, all three occupants of the Accord died on the scene. Their identities have yet to be reported.
The driver of the Ford Fusion, 27-year-old Victor Tyler, was rushed to the hospital as to treat minor injuries sustained to both of his arms. A Sig Alert was issued and both sides of the freeway were shut down for several hours, but have recently reopened. The exact cause of the crash is still unknown, and is under active investigation by CHP.
